NAHMA is requesting your participation in a crucial effort to ensure adequate funding for affordable housing programs in 2017. Congress will soon begin preparing the appropriation bills for fiscal year (FY) 2017 for all federal programs, including affordable housing programs. We are asking for your assistance in urging lawmakers to provide funding to the Senate and House Subcommittees on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) and Subcommittees on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies that will adequately renew all rental assistance contracts and fully fund all affordable housing programs for FY 2017.

Suggested Talking Points for your Grassroots Advocacy:

Full Funding for All HUD Affordable Housing Programs –

  • Fund 12-month Project-Based Rental Assistance renewals at least $10.8 billion
  • Fund the renewal of Housing Choice Vouchers at $21 billion
  • Housing for the Elderly (Section 202) at $505 million
  • Supportive Housing for Person with Disabilities (Section 811) at $154
  • HOME program by providing an FY 2017 appropriation of at least $1.2 billion
  • Fully Fund USDA, Rural Development Programs
    • Fund Section 521, Rural Rental Assistance, at $1.4 billion to renew all rental assistance contracts for FY2017
    • Fund Section 515, Multifamily Mortgage program, at $33 million
    • Fund Multifamily Revitalization Program and Rural Housing Vouchers, at $37 million
