“The NAHMA Educational Foundation is very proud that students living in 40 different states and several U.S. territories have been selected to receive NAHMA scholarships over the 19 consecutive years that the foundation has been making scholarship awards. In 2026, the foundation will be working with AHMA and management company leadership to secure applications from students living in affordable housing in the nine states that have never been represented: Arkansas, Maine, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota & West Virginia. We know there are students in those states who could benefit from NAHMA Education al Foundation financial assistance. We want to get them involved,” said NAHMA Educational Foundation chairperson, Anthony Sandoval, on Feb. 12 when the 2026 NAHMA scholarship application was released.
Again this year, the foundation will be emphasizing its efforts to secure more applications from students attending trade/technical schools. Any resident seeking a trade license or certification at an accredited trade/technical school to secure employment must attend the school to receive the required training, and should be encouraged to apply for a NAHMA scholarship. Like every other form of post-secondary education, trade/technical schools are not inexpensive. As a result, the foundation knows that student residents pursuing careers in trade/technical schools, certification programs, and traditional colleges can benefit from the financial assistance a NAHMA scholarship can provide.
The 2026 NAHMA Scholarship Application can be found at nahma.communityforce.com and must be filed online. The deadline for submission of completed applications is 10 p.m. Eastern time on May 8. Only completed applications will be considered. Applications from graduate students will not be accepted. In each of the last seven years, more than 80% of eligible individuals submitting a completed application have received a scholarship. In 2025, 135 scholarships were awarded, each worth $3,500 for a total of $472,500. The foundation anticipates that each scholarship will be worth $3,500 again in 2026. Plenty of time remains for your resident students to apply before the deadline!
Flyers promoting the scholarship program are available in both English and Spanish on the NAHMA website, www.nahma.org, and can be utilized by affordable housing community personnel in newsletters, on bulletin boards, etc. Anyone seeking additional information regarding the scholarship program can contact Dr. Bruce W. Johnson, NAHMA scholarship program administrator, at bjohnson@tmo.com. Again, the deadline for submission of completed applications is 10 p.m. Eastern time on May 8. The NAHMA Educational Foundation wants to encourage you to please make your residents aware of this outstanding program that provides impactful financial assistance to students living at member affordable housing communities!
