Fiscal deadline looms as spending talks stall
With the next federal spending deadline set for January 19th, lawmakers will likely need to pass another short-term stopgap measure to keep the government afloat past next week. Meanwhile, negotiations are underway for a longer-term budget deal to fund federal programs through the rest of this fiscal year and the next, but immigration and national security issues, as well as overall spending levels, remain sticking points for a budget deal.
Democrats and defense hawks alike have voiced unease at approving another Continuing Resolution without movement on the budget negotiations, leaving Republican leaders scrambling for votes. NAHMA is monitoring the situation closely and will keep members updated on ongoing negotiations.
