USDA leadership evaluating prepayment prevention

Earlier this year, NAHMA and our industry colleagues wrote to the Rural Development leadership regarding the use of all available rental assistance (RA) funding in fiscal year 2017, as opposed to forward funding contracts for Fiscal Year 2018. This week, NAHMA staff met with Joyce Allen, the Deputy Administrator for the Office of Multifamily Housing at Rural Development, to discuss the issue further. Anne Hazlett, the Assistant to the Secretary for Rural Development, and Curtis Anderson, the Acting Administrator for the Rural Housing Service, have responded with a letter stating that Joyce Allen and her staff are evaluating the prepayment prevention RA waiting list situation.

Congress will return next week after the President’s Day Recess

Upon returning to Washington next week, lawmakers are expected to continue work on a Fiscal Year 2018 omnibus spending bill to fund housing and other programs for the full year. We look forward to seeing everyone at NAHMA’s March Meeting, and we are excited to take our request for fully-funded affordable housing programs to the Hill as we meet with legislators from across the country.
