The 55th Anniversary of the Fair Housing Act
This week, President Biden commemorated the 55th Anniversary of the Fair Housing Act and underscored the Administration’s continued commitment to advancing equity in housing, combating discrimination in housing, and protecting fair housing rights for all. President Biden stated, “As we celebrate the ways in which the Fair Housing Act has empowered millions of Americans with a fair shot at accessing housing opportunities over the last 55 years, let’s continue the work to ensure everyone has free and fair housing choice. Let’s join together to make the American dream a reality for all Americans.“ HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge reiterated the President’s commitment to fair housing, stating “Though it has been 55 years since the Fair Housing Act was passed, we are still working tirelessly to fight housing discrimination. Today, we recommit to our mission to provide equality and opportunity to every person who calls America home, regardless of their race, color, religion, national origin, sex (including sexual orientation or gender identity), disability, or familial status.” Throughout the month of April, HUD will also host activities that enhance public awareness of fair housing rights, highlight fair housing enforcement efforts, and emphasize the importance of creating diverse and inclusive communities.
