Funding for HUD and USDA Rural Housing Programs is set to expire on Dec. 21. Congress has not passed full-year Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 funding for the two agencies and they are facing a government shutdown, which will negatively impact all rental assistance programs. Urge Congress to support affordable housing programs and pass full year funding bills.

Congress is in deep disagreement over immigration funding and this is jeopardizing government funding for HUD and USDA for the rest of this fiscal year (FY19).

Urge Congress to Prevent a Government Shutdown

Ask lawmakers to fully fund affordable housing programs. A government shutdown and temporary stopgap funding measures are harmful to families living in affordable housing, and they are harmful to our industry.

  • Request full funding: Urge your lawmakers to enact full-year funding for HUD and USDA housing programs. Fiscal Year 2019 Factsheet is attached and available here.

Urge Congress to support the Housing Credit.

Advocate to strengthen the Housing Credit. As Congress negotiates the spending bills, help us build support for provisions that strengthen the production and preservation of affordable rental housing throughout the country.

  • Relay the message to Congressional leadership: Please ask your legislators to urge Congressional leadership to include provisions of the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act in the tax extension package. These sample letters can be customized to your respective Senators or Representatives.

Please take a moment to call or email your lawmakers.

Your legislators want to hear from you. Look-up your legislators or reach out to NAHMA Government Affairs staff for assistance with advocacy in DC and in your district.
